Branden Nicholson is a football player, wellness coach, model and actor from Long Beach, Calif. Nicholson’s accolades date back to his days in high school when he dominated as an all-city, all-sport, point guard and running back. In college, during his NFL evaluation day performance, he suffered an injury that caused doctors to say he’d never walk again. MH+L Magazine downtown LA Issue Release Party, Red Carpet

At Modern Home and Living (MH+L) Magazine’s issue Release Party, which took place June 2010 at J Lounge in DTLA, Tito Ruiz, principal of TRu Ink Media, poses on the red carpet alongside MH+L publisher, DUB Magazine and World of Dance co-founder Herman Flores, and Bobby Simmons of the LA Clippers.

For MH+L’s second issue (pictured above), Ruiz, a MH+L contributor/talent coordinator, wrote the magazine’s Blueprint section, which focuses on architecture and interior design. In the Blueprint Ruiz featured the Mid-Century Austin, TX estate of film producer and director Kevin Pruitt.

Ruiz, who has a background in advertising, is working pro bono to help KR3T’s create a more dynamic portfolio aimed at increasing exposure in the Hip-Hop industry. After defying all odds, model/former NFL hopeful, Branden Nicholson, transforms the lives of others through his Southern California-based fitness program, B. Nick Fitness.

06-29-2012-Los Angeles–For former Eastern Washington University wide receiver Branden Nicholson, 28, March 8, 2005 marked the day he eagerly anticipated since childhood. That afternoon, the Long Beach, Calif. native executed the first of what was scheduled to be a series of drills for numerous NFL scouts who had a watchful eye on him.

As the six-foot-two, 220 pound phenomenon began vigorously running the 40-yard dash—with five yards remaining—his right leg gave out and he collapsed on the turf.

“My career flashed in front of my eyes,” says Nicholson, who had been accepted to the university on a full football scholarship. “I’ve never felt so much pain before. A San Diego Chargers scout said my right leg swelled so severely that it was triple the size of my left leg.”

At the hospital, doctors discovered that Nicholson broke his femur bone and immediately performed three intense surgeries on the NFL hopeful. Ultimately, his doctors assured him he’d never walk again.

“I was hospitalized for two months and I felt completely lost,” he recalls. “I had a 28-inch rod in my leg and my weight decreased from 220 to 143 pounds. My coaches and teammates lost hope in me.”

“It was a scary time for Branden,” says Nicholson’s mother Regina Riles, a registered nurse of 20 years. “But I kept reassuring him that God was going to rebuild him bigger, faster and stronger than ever.”

Nearly one year later, to everyone’s astonishment, he rejoined the team his senior year, much stronger than before. Nicholson simply credits God for delivering on his promise to heal him.

After graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications, Nicholson continued pursuing his modeling/acting career, appearing on VH1, MTV and Spike TV. He also played for two Arena Football teams.

Then, in 2009, he established B. Nick Fitness, an online and in person one-on-one and group wellness program geared towards drastically transforming lives.

“When I started my workouts with Branden, I was on two high blood pressure medications,” says Gary Ambach, 49, of Beaumont, Calif., one of Nicholson’s many grateful clients. “Now my doctor has completely taken me off one of my medications and reduced the other to half of the dose I was initially prescribed.”

“I love what I do,” exclaims Nicholson. “I always told myself, ‘If I can change one life daily, then this job is for me.’ With every life I transform, the more glory I give to God.”

Renown choreographer Violeta Galagarza and pro dancer Rosie Quinones encourage women of all ages to seek empowerment through their diverse series of motivational dance workshops in New York.

May 04, 2012 – New York – Award-winning choreographer Violeta Galagarza, founder and creative director of the world renowned KR3TS Dance Company and professional dancer Rosie Quinones, founder of Just Rose Talent Production, have announced the launch of “The Grown And Sexxi Dance Workshop Series For Women.”

The weekly sessions, which will include a variety of dance techniques, including Hip-Hop, Latin and House, take place every Thursday, 7-9 p.m., May 10-31, 2012, at Draper Hall, 1918 E. 99th St. Each class will conclude with a 30-minute health, nutrition, sensuality and spirituality segment hosted by a special guest speaker.

Galagarza and Quinones created the workshop series to provide women with an opportunity to express themselves through dance in a comfortable and fun atmosphere. “We feel it’s important to motivate women to tap into their inner-self in an adult environment and help them to recognize that they still got it,” says Galagarza, a former Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater student who has been dancing since age nine.
